Q: Strange Happenings

Last year I had to get tested for a new job. The urine sample showed I had a UTI. I didn't know what a UTI was and the lady told me to drink a lot of cranberry juice an i'd be fine. I had no symptoms beforehand and none after so I never went to the doctor. Then six months later I started to have dishcharge and itching. I have no insurance so I don't visit the doctor but b/c of my discomfort I had to. The visit cost me a couple of hundred. The doctor said I had a yeast infection and gave me a prescription. The infection went away. Now eight months late I see symptoms for it again. Rather than go to the doctor I went to the pharmacy and picked up monistat. Before this happened I was sexually active and right after the encounter I was feeling itchy but my period came the next day, So i treated my self right after it ended 6 days later. The discharge was still there but no pain or itching. Then the discharge reduced in amount. My period came again the next month and for the first few days i had no discharge. Now i have a watery discharge that has an odor. I doesnt smell fishy but almost like ammonia and stinky feet the smell is faint.I've tested for STDs and I have none, what could this possibly be?

This is a very tough question, I' m not finding a lot of helpful information. You could try the suggestions here, at #3. I'm trying to help you avoid having to go to the doctor because of your situation.

Read this excellent article written by Merely Me, our community leader a thi site on UTI's.

If it's bacterial in nature it may be chronic, it does keep reoccurring in some women. I think some of the changes suggested in that material may be your best bet. Or at least, worth a try.

thank you for your help Paul, but i don't see which article you were refering to in the first link and i looked at the UTI link and my symptoms don't match up. As of now the discharge has decreased to a minimum. Its watery with an odor. The odor I think only appears when the discharge has released. B/c there is no smell after i shower and before the discharge is released. When I had the yeast infection my discharge was of a completley different consistency. I have no itching or pain when I urinate. I do not have the urge to urinate frequently either. I'm hoping its not cancer or something thats deadly.

I wasn't really any help. I can't locate that article either, which is okay because I wasn't too thrilled with it to begin with, but it was something and so is this article  from Vagisil, but it doesn't really address everything you are facing. I'm not a doctor, just a member trying to help, I had hoped maybe someone else would join in with ideas. Unfortunately it is all leading toward seeing a physician.

I don't know if you have insurance yet, there is one Health and Human Services site which purports to help find a free, or low cost clinic in you area. Truth is, I've not known anyone who has used it and if they were successful. This is the link.

A normal discharge is supposed to be watery, but I don't know the quantity you are experiencing. An odor is often caused by a bacterial infection of some kind, but I think it is time you found out instead of going through this worry by seeing a doctor for a pelvic exam and testing, if necessary. I wish I could find something definitive for you.

so i called around, one place didnt have any openings till november. Another place only did apts for new clients b4 2:45 ( AT this point can't take off of work) I'm starting to think maybe its just a yeast infection and the 3 day monistat just didnt work. I don't want to use more medicine in case it isn't a yeast infection. It could be makE matters worse. I saw that yogurt could be a home remedy. It sounds safe and if it doesn't work it probably wont do any harm. Is inserting yogurt really helpful to a yeast infection? I aslo started to drink more water and the smell has decreased, if not vanished and the discharge is now the size of a penny its also more whitish now. I also thought that maybe i should try birth control hoping that it will some how be effective?

Hmmm..you'd have to run the idea of birth control by a doctor, it can't hurt to ask.

No, the yogurt you would just eat every day. But it's another thing worth a try. Take the first opening you can, you can always cancel if things work out for you.

Your symptoms are exactly like mine, I have been diagnosed by the STD Clinic as having Bacterial Vaginosis Infection, or Gardernerella, or Vaginitis, all one in the same.  A stinking bacterial infection.  Regretably, I allowed the clinic to prescribe antibiotics for me, this has only compounded the infection by adding yeast to the problem.  Forget Doctors advice, and go natural.  Garlic suppositories I make myself, douches made with Apple Cider Vinegar, yogurt, and Tea Tree Oil; Search these home remedies out and you will see what I am saying is true.  One thing the doctor mentioned is that, only one kind of vaginal infection gives off an odor and it is....BVI.

I have been self treating this problem and am having successful results.  It may take up to ten days of diligence, but you will have instant relief if you begin with a Tea Tree Oil infused douche, and then insert your homemade garlic suppositories.  I also dip a tampon in the TTO infusion, insert that for 3-4 hours max, it helps me feel fresh if I am intending to have intercourse that day.

I hope you will find this info useful, good luck.
