Q: Skipped sugar pills in birth control pack; period is now irregular. When will it go back to normal?

8 months ago, I decided to skip the sugar pills in my birth control pack (Femcon Fe) so I could avoid my period for a vacation.  Since then, my periods have been irregular - one month I will bleed a little, the next I won't get it at all and so on.  I had always been regular on the pill prior to this.  Should I go off the pill for a few months to reset my period and then go on again?  My doctor said I could but that it is not necessary, that my body will go back to normal eventually.  I am just worried about this, I feel like my period will never go back to normal.

To ease your mind get off the pill for about 3 months, by then your period should be normal again.  Then start taking your birth control pills.
