Q: Missed one month of birth control and now period is late,

Hi,

I've been on YAZ birth control for 6 months.  Because of insurance issues I missed an entire month of pills (last month)  I figured I would start a new pack when my period came this month.  My period is now 3 days late. I've had sex (using the withdrawl method) several times.  Is it normal to have a late period after missing a month of birth control?

Hi there

The withdrawal method is no method.  You could still get pregnant.  I would take a home pregnancy test to rule out that possibility.

If you are not on the pill you have to use a reliable back up method.

I hope things work out for you.  Thank you for your question.

Thank you for replying.  Luckly today I started my period.  You're totally right about the withdrawl "method". Normally I take the pill religiously (every sexually active girl should in my opinion)

I think it probably is normal. See, it takes about a month for your body to adjust to birth control, and once it does, your periods are controlled by the pill. If you stop taking it, your period is probably going to be irregular for a while. Reply
