Can a yeast infection cause red bumps, or is it an allergic reaction?

I've been having a few problems in my private area for a few months now. It started off with just an odor and itching. Then it became burning, itching, odor, redness, and weird discharge. Now I'm also peeling on my inner thigh as if my skin has been burned off, and I have some bumps that look like pimples, but they hurt alot. I'm 17 and a virgin, so I dont think it can be an STD. What kind of ointment can I use for this problem?

You need to get to a doctor. We need to make sure you are diagnosed correctly and treated with the right medication. Your future health is too important.

What kind of odor? Can you identify it with a certain smell? What color is the discharge and consistency? There are other infections besides a yeast infection which mimic the symptoms.

You can read this article by Merely Me, a writer and community leader for this site, called, All you ever wanted to know about yeast infections.

As she states, first you have to determine if it is a yeast infection. Wasting time and money treating what seems to be that, only jeopardizes your health and could lead to something more serious. Please read her article, it is very helpful. It does list possible treatments also, but see your doctor who can make sure this is what you have and can write prescriptions for medication, if necessary.

I'm not sure what the problem is. Whether it is your age or something else that you need from your family. What don't they want to help you with as far as medicaid? For now, you might be well off to seek care at your local emergency room and worry about paying later. I don't know your circumstances.

There is a list of state medicaid websites where you can contact assistance, or apply for benefits, or contact your local county assistance. You may know all this already but you should get medical help. There are free, or almost free clinics out there and you can contact your county health department to see if they can help you locate one near you.

    kaykay1892,

I know it has been a while, but I was wondering if you found some way to see a doctor.  Paul is right in that it is very important to get the correct diagnosis before using medications, or you may cause harm to yourself.  If the medicaid angle doesn't work, you might also see if your community has a local clinic or something like a Planned Parenthood. Many of those types of organizations can offer a sliding pay scale or reduced-price examinations, or they may be able to point you to a place where you can receive care.

I'm sorry your famiy didn't take you seriously.  That must have been very hurtful.  Hopefully you found some care.  Please let us know how you are doing.

    Best of luck,

    James
