Q: looking for meds to stimulate 'desire', NOT ed meds...

my 61 yr old husband had a 5-way heart bypass six years ago, with SERIOUS complications afterwards. he suffered two separate emboli showers, four days apart, which peppered his brain with miniscule clots, unable to be seen on MRI for 2.5 yrs. since his surgery, he has suffered from what we thought was ED, to which his cardiologist gave him levitra. the levitra 'fixed' the physical aspect, but this is not useful because the main problem is that my husband has no 'desire'. none to masturbate, none to do anything sexual, he doesn't even LOOK at anyone as he should. assuming (from trial and error over these years and hours of personal research) that this 'desire deficit' is due to the CVAs caused by the emboli showers, i have heard that there may be a medication that stimulates 'desire' when none exists. his hormone levels have been tested and are on the low side of normal range. his PSA is usu around 2-3 and is checked every 6 months due to his father having had prostate ca. his thyroid is fine. he is on 5mg/day of norvasc and on pravastatin 80mg, which was why his cardio gave him the levitra, thinking it was a med side effect.

please let me know if there is a med for the brain, and if you guys recommend any uro's or psych's in shasta county california who can treat him! he hates going to doctors, especially when i am dragging him there! any help is welcome! if the news is that there is no help, that's fine too! i just like to know if i'm banging my head against the wall and wasting time on nothing...

thanks

Hello there

Although your question is not about erectile dysfunction I think you are going to get a better answer if you ask this on our Erectile Dysfunction site.  This is a very complex question and honestly...you should ask your husband's doctor about this.

I am sorry to be of so little help.  Good luck to you.
