Q: Left birth control in heat for long time....still bleeding...why???

Hi. I left my 4 month supply of birth control in my car for 4 months. I just switched out the packs in my car. I dont take the white pills at all so I dont get my period. Anyway...the first 2 1/2 months everything was fine...but towards the end of my 3rd pack I started bleeding. I continued on with that pack and then started my 4th pack and I was still bleeding. I didnt know why so I read the box and it said to be stored in 70 degrees. So I figured that maybe I messed up the pills by leaving them in the car so long in the heat (all summer). So i went to the pharmacy and got new pills and didnt finish the 4th pack. But I'm still bleeding!!! Its a light consistent bleeding, brown in color and now I itch like crazy and I dont know if its because Ive been wearing pads for so long now. I dont know and its starting to drive me crazy! I am a week and 5 days into my new pack. Why hasnt the bleeding stopped? Should I see a doctor?

You should definitely be seen by a gynecologist because of the continued bleeding outside of your normal periods. It is not normal and the cause is unknown; there is no way to confidently say that the pills are the the culprit here. The brown color means it is old blood working it's way out. The itching may be from irritation or some type of infection, the doctor will determine that.

Generally all medications can lose potency when exposed to high temperatures. But there are so many reasons for abnormal bleeding, it really does require a doctor's investigation.

Make an appointment and if you can let us know how you are.
