I would definitely talk about this with my doctor to get their view and any new information about testing for HPV in men. Here is a good article about HPV, from the American Cancer Society. It is lengthy but it says, in part:

"There is no test approved to detect HPV in men. But genital warts can be found and treated. While women have the Pap test, there are no tests approved to detect early HPV-related cancers in men. In gay, bisexual, and HIV-positive men, some doctors use anal Pap tests to detect and treat pre-cancerous changes of the anus. Since anal testing is in the early stages of development and use, its effect on anal cancer rates will not be seen for many years."

"Genital HPV usually has no symptoms, unless it is a type that causes genital warts. Genital warts may appear within weeks or months after contact with a partner who has HPV. More rarely, genital warts may show up years after exposure.

Most people will never know they have HPV because they have no symptoms and the body's immune system causes the virus to become inactive. In about 90% of cases, the body's immune system clears the HPV infection within 2 years. This is true of both high-risk and low-risk HPV types. A small number of people with HPV will have the virus for a longer time. These people can develop cell changes that over many years may lead to cervical or other genital or anal cancers."

You should read over the entire article for other information and speak with your doctor.

Thank you very much for this important information..I have to go to have a Coloscopy at my OB'S..in a few weeks..When I told the guy that I was having sex with (he is the only one in 2 years)..he seemed almost unphased, nor concerend...And his reaction concerens me...I have asked him numberous times if he knows if he has had any symptoms, and who he has had unproteced sex besides me..I only know of one woman, and I told him to PLEASE ask her if she has HPV...

My last pap was normal as all the previous ones...I the EBV aka Chronic Fatigue and Fibromyalgia..and my immune system is already compromised and take another huge blow...Anyways, I'm just really upset at myself for having unprotected sex with this guy...Also, in Dec. 2008 I had a sub partial Hysterectomy, in which my OB left my Cervix in for bladder control, and since I can no longer get pregnant, I got complacent about having sex with this guy without using condoms...

Anyways, any other adise would be very much appreciated..

See what the Coloscopy reveals, the doctor is going to investigate further and try to be as accurate as possible, as hard as it is, you need to be patient and let them investigate just what is happening. They will probably do a biopsy to verify the initial diagnosis of HPV, and to check for any other problems.

It is curious, his reaction, you would think he'd be worried about having a problem too, or where it came from.

I can only hope the best for you, and do try to await the doctor's results after the testing has been done. You want to be sure as possible about what the abnormal test means.

I truly thank you so much for writing back and for your concern and insight..I asked him again tonight if he had anything to come clean with as far as prior STD'S or if he has knowledge that he tramistted HPV..What upsets me the most, is that I told him, I suggest in the future you use protection as he is putting other unspecting others at a risk for HPV...The thing with me is that my immune system is very below par already due from the EBV aka CFS...so I cannot afford another hit...and this guy, just totally seems unphased...if I was him I would be freaking out..and I told him there is no real screening for HPV in men unless there are outward signs (he is smart he knows that its his anus) ...Anyways, I just need to worry about myself...I will never be careless and believing in a man until I am in a comitted relationship again...Thanks again for your concern..
