It is not a disease but is a common infection. It can be treated with an antibiotic.
Not necessarily through him.
Women can become infected when the natural bacterial environment in her vagina becomes disturbed. For a man to contract the infection, it is generally, sexually transmitted to him. So, he could have gotten it from you, or could have given it to you, or you became infected without human intervention.
