Q: I have had no "full" period, just brown, sometimes light tan discharge, followed and mixed with a bit of blood, but it's more pinky or light red blood, what is this, is this something serious?

I am getting quite worried. I am 30 and I am NOT sexually active for many years now, so I'm not pregnant. My period are always regular, I have never missed one period, that I recall. I have them every 28-29 days and they are always a normal 5 day cycle. I'm on my second month of having this weird period-like experience. Last month I had no period at all only the spotting and heavy brown discharge about 2 weeks after my period was due. This month, a week after I was due to come on, I am having some light spotting, but it is mixed with this weird tan color, sometimes brown discharge and at other times a more liquid-like discharge that feels like a period coming out, but when I go use the restroom, I'm not getting a full period,( barely anything for a panty liner, only when I wipe.) This will last about 2-3 days and then nothing. I haven't been experiencing any pain (yet)..well except occasionally many months ago, I would sometimes feel a needle like prick at my lower abdomen right above the genital area, kind of on the mid right side, but I haven't felt it in a few months. This lack of period with only a bit of blood and tan discharge is really worrying me and I know I need to go to the doctor, yet because of no insurance I have to go to a clinic and can't get in till next month. Anyone experience this and found out what is was, can anyone help? thank you so much!

It's really not possible to say if it is serious or not without a physical exam by a doctor. Especially one familiar, or who becomes familiar, with your habits, medical conditions, drugs you are taking, stress in your life, your diet, ovarian cysts, thyroid problem and more. The brownish color, of course is old blood slowly coming out.

But, this is a change from normal for you and does need to be investigated and it may not be serious.

This may not apply to you but may be worth reading. Merely Me, a writer for this site, wrote an article about, My Period Is Late! Reasons for a delayed period other than pregnancy.

I hope you this improves for you before then, but if you can, keep the appointment and let the doctor help.
