Q: Please HELP!!!!

Please HELP!!!!  My wife has been suffering from intense pain for the past 6 years in the lower abdomen area (above her pubic hair line) and wraps around her lower back. Every day she lives with pain, but it seems like it gets much worse and intensifies in the later part of the afternoon when we get home from work. The areas feel hot to touch in the evening, as if something were burning from inside.

Thus so far, the doctors have removed her gallbladder and her uterus and none of these have helped at all.  She has had numerous exams...everything from ultra sounds, blood work, urine, laparascopis x 3, x-rays, and upper thorax and abdominal tac, vaginal ultrasound, etc...and nothing has ever been found.

As of now she just recently had her uterus removed Sept. 5th and the only thing they have been able to find is that she has infection and inflammation inside her body, but they do not know where or what is causing it.  Pain pills are no longer helping...Percaset, Tramadol or even combinations.    I love my wife dearly and can not stand to see her suffer so much.  Please help. Sincerely, JAG.

Hi Jag

I know this must be horribly frustrating to both you and your wife.  To live with pain for so long is a devastating thing.

Know that I am not a doctor.  I can only approach this from the point of view of a fellow patient.

I have some questions for you...why did they take out her gallbladder and uterus?  Was she formally diagnosed with anything prior to their removal?  And how is she being treated presently for her infection?  Have they told her that she has pelvic inflammatory disease?  Do her doctors say anything about whether there is hope for her to feel better once the infection is gone?

My suggestion is to write down every symptom, all the medical history, all the tests, gather all the results...and have these ready for the next doctor you see.  If you are not getting any answers I am afraid to tell you that you have to press on to see someone else...another doctor until your wife gets the help she needs.  It sounds like you are a very strong advocate for her.  You will need this strength to carry on with this long process.

I am going to also give you a link to our Chronic Pain site where I hope you will ask your question there as well.  They may have some ideas about how your wife can control her pain.

I am sorry you and your wife are going through this.  Thank you for reaching out here.
