Q: Are pelvic exercisers safe?

I have had three vaginal births in the last four years. Since the first (and it has worsened with each one) I have issues with leaking urine and notice that my pelvic muscles are nothing near what they used to be. Even with Kegels there has been little improvement. Are any of the pelvic/kegel exercisers safe and effective?

Hi there

Have you asked your doctor about this?

I hear ya.  After babies it seems nothing is the same anymore.  But the consistent leaking of urine can be a real problem.

This web site says that you have to do the Kegals consistently and for a certain length of time:  "Research suggests that, for the exercises to be fully effective, you need to do them for at least three months."

I do believe the exercises are safe to do but why not ask your doctor if you have concerns.

Also here is a forum where many people talk about this symptom after childbirth.

Some of the women talk about seeing a urologist if things do not improve over time.  Evidently there is surgery which can be done if nothing else is working.

Thank you for your question.
