My Wife has what she calims to be an extended colon, which protrudes from her anus. What is this and is there more information I can find about the disorder?

I think you might be describing a rectal prolapse. This is where the lower end of the rectum protrudes out of the anus. Some people have a genetic predisposition, and in others it can occur simply by straining too hard when having a bowel movement. If it is a prolapse, I believe the only treatment is via surgery.
