Q: missed my period by 5wks and negative pregancy tests

20y/o female. off birth control since june '09. july to nov '09 had 28-31 day cycles. In December I admit i was under a ton of stress and my period was 2 wks late. My last cycle was Dec 27th and had unprotected sex the 7th & 8th of Jan. Now (almost the 19th of feb) and have not started my period. I haven't had any vomiting, but sometimes I get nausous in the evening, but doesn't last long at all. My breast aren't swollen or tender, but they have felt a tad tingling the past few weeks including my vagina. In addition, my boss has mentioned her concern for me - she thinks I have lost a ton of weight and when weighing myself I've lost about 15lbs and 2 inches in my pant size without trying and I am eating. At work we practiced using the portable ultrasound and the doc couldn't locate my ovaries (2wks ago). I have had some cramping, but nothing painful. Over the past 2 wks up to 2days ago I've tested and all three came out negative. What do you think?!

Hi there

Please know that I am not a doctor.

It sounds like your cycle may be off due to stress and a great change in weight...that can do it.  If you have taken three home pregnancy tests it is unlikely that you are pregnant.  But if you want to know for sure, you should go see your doctor or gynecologist and they can do a blood test for you.  But also the doctor can check on your general health to see if there is anything else going on.

In the meantime, here is an article I just wrote entitled, "Am I pregnant?  How to Know."  I hope this helps.

Good luck to you and thank you for your question.

Test again in a couple of weeks for a more accurate result. Your hormone levels may not be showing enough to show a positive test or you simply may not be pregnant. I had three tests show negative with my second child. I KNEW I was pregnant and finally asked the doc to do a blood test. Come to find out I was pregnant, but my levels were barely showing up. My body told me I was pregnant before a test could tell. When I got a vaginal ultrasound to date the pregnancy a few days later, we couldn't even see the amniotic fluid sac. A few weeks later the doc did another ultrasound to rule out an eptopic pregnancy and we could see the sac. So, I just knew really early.
