Q: Ive been diagnosed with HPV. Now what?

Due to painful intercourse I went back to the gynecologist and I was told that I have a few strands of HPV however none of the "dangerous" ones... and the only thing she told me is that I had to wait it out and see. However when i went back she sold me .what i realized now is a douche.. saying that it could get rid of 70% of my HPV. did she just rip me off? it cost 140 bucks... Im reading online now that there is no proven fact of it working and that it is actually harmful?

Anyways..My boyfriend and I have been together for 5 months now... should he be tested as well? We have no visible symptoms.. no warts... after using lubricant i no longer feel pain during intercourse...

What precautions should I take now? I feel so hopeless with no... solution.

I don't know about the douche, I like you, would have trust the doctor.

I think it all depends on what type of strain or strains of hpv you are carrying. There is no test approved for men yet to detect hpv; other than an examination for genital warts.

The following was taken from this site, it is pretty informative, if you haven't seen it, it would be worth reading:

"Most people will never know they have HPV because they have no symptoms and the body's immune system causes the virus to become inactive. In about 90% of cases, the body's immune system clears the HPV infection within 2 years. This is true of both high-risk and low-risk HPV types. A small number of people with HPV will have the virus for a longer time. These people can develop cell changes that over many years may lead to cervical or other genital or anal cancers"

There is now a vaccine for men which help prevent genital warts, you can read about that in this article by Merely Me, a writer and community leader on this site.

Well to start off, your not alone. I was diagnosed with HPV, when I was pregnant with my daughter. When I delivered her, they did some type of procedure to take it out. Believe it or no, HPV can actually go away on its own, thats why you doc said to wait and see. I suggest going to get the HPV shots that way you dont get any of the harmful strands that could cause cervical cancer. If your doc said you didnt have any of those, I can almost guarantee that it will go away on its own. And I know someone will try and disagree with me, but my whole family and my family's family are doctors and OB/GYNS. HPV is basically part of our DNA now, with almost all of the women in the US having this now. And there is no way for a man to know if he has it or not, and they will never have any symptoms. There are no symptoms of HPV until it turns into cancer basically. So guys just go on their merry way, carrying this disease and passing it along. Please dont get stressed over this. You will be fine, and please talk to me if you need to, I have been threw it! Also Please go get the shots! Its 3 sets of shot and it will benefit you in the end! if you fit between the age, you can get them for free at any health department! I hope this Helps!Laughing

Oh and another thing, The pain during intercourse was probably not caused by the HPV, it was more than likely you ovulating. You really can never know. I had the same problem with that to!

the precautions you should take is,

wear a condom, just incase something happens between you and your bf break up hes not infecting anyone else. and you could have very well contracted it from him!

and get the shots! that will help out alot. besides those.. there really isnt much you can do except see what happens. But I have faith it will just go away on its own!
