Q: my gyn found a fibroid i have had heavy cycles for a long time im allmost 50 now he wants to do an endomitral biopsey but i dont so should i go to another dr as im sure it is this large fibroid

i have had this heavy cycle for  LONG WHILE  so they did an ultra sound aand a scop to look at the utirus  lining  then they called me and said they wanted to do the endomitral biopsey,  he didnt ask to check my hormones at all, was taking provera for 2 months helped a bit but not as much as i thought so  i want to go to another gyn  should i do this  said the fibroid was 7 cm   but it isnt bothering me ,i dont want to go through a biopsey i dont feel it is nessasary

Sure, if your insurance covers a second opinion, or you can afford it, any time you have doubts or just want to have a second opinion before a proceedure, you can. The first doctor will understand and most will encourage a parient to get another doctor's opinion if they have doubts.

 

If you have questions, such as having your hormones checked, you should clear these up, and get as much information as you can about having the proceedure, and what could be the consequences of not doing anything.

 

"A biopsy is most often done to examine tissue for disease," according to the National Institues of Health.

 

This ultimately will be your decision, get as much information as you can.
