Hi griffin,

While I agree with you that nicotine is one of the most addictive substances known to man, I disagree that the goal of rehab is to "stop all addictions."  Rather, the goal of alcohol and drug rehab is to help people return to a point where they can function, in family/relationships, work, and society in general.  Unless a person develops lung cancer or emphysema, etc. nicotine addiction does not disrupt this functioning in the same way that drugs and alcohol do, at least not right away, and sometimes not at all (as in the case of the person who smokes all of their life and lives to be 90)!

I'm not saying that nicotine addiction is a good or even a neutral thing, we all know that it is much healthier to become free from nicotine addiction.  However, for those in rehab to get free from the more immediately destructive drugs, it is generally not a
good idea for them to be stripped of all of their coping mechanisms!
