Q: Hi, I've recently skipped a period. I am not on any medication and I am under a light amount of stress. I'm having all symptoms of a period, and have a white, faintly yellow discharge in place of

blood. I've taken a pregnancy test, and it came out negative. I don't feel pregnant; I feel like my body just decided to skip a period, honestly. I'm not spotting or anything; it just hasn't shown up. I've done some research, and I've concluded that it could be anovulation, just managed to skip and ovulation cycle (is that possible, and if so, is it benign?), or stress. I've also recently changed my diet and have lost about 5 pounds. Is that drastic enough to change my cycle? My cycle isn't clockwork, but it happens about every month. I'd just like your advice, and I'm sure it requires the follow up of a doctor visit, but I'm honestly curious if it could just be something innocent and harmless to have missed my period. Sincerely, Curiousfox

Hi there

How late are you with your period?

Please know that I am not a medical professional and cannot provide medical advice.  But I can give you some information we have on our site.

I wrote an article you may wish to read about reasons for a delayed or absent period.  It is true that stress and/or weight gain or loss can delay your period.  There can also be other reasons such as an ovarian cyst or infection.  You have already guessed that you should probably see your doctor so you don't worry about this and get some peace of mind.

Let us know what happens.  Thank you for your question.

That was actually very helpful and informative. I thank you very much. And I'm going to ask my mom to schedule an appointment soon to figure out what's up. I'll let everyone know how it turns out.
