Q: vaginal bleeding after bowel movement

I am 45 years old and had a hysterectomy 13 years ago. I do not have my cervix but do have both ovaries. I recently went to a gynecologist due to having vaginal bleeding. It has been random and is always bright red and after I urinate. I see it on the toilet paper. I am an RN and I know that it is definetely coming from the vagina, not urethra. I have had my kidneys and bladder checked out thoroughly so nothing wrong there.
I actually used a Q tip and inserted it into my vagina and there was blood. Of course, by the time I went to the doctor, the bleeding had stopped and he said everything looked ok. The only thing he noted was that one of my ovaries was enlarged and had a cyst.
Last night I had a bad episode of abdominal cramping and loose BM. After that, I noticed the vaginal bleeding had started up again. I also had menstrual like cramps in the pelvic area, which does not make sense.
I would appreciate any input.

Hi there

Please know that I am not a doctor or a gynecologist.

In such cases I think it is a good idea to keep a log of your symptoms so you have something concrete to give to your doctor.  Have you asked your doctor if there could be any connection to your cyst and the bleeding?  I am wondering if any of the straining during urinating or having a bowel movement is putting pressure anywhere.

Are you having any other symptoms like bloating or an increased pressure to urinate?

I would seek a second opinion if this doctor cannot explain the blood.

Let us know what you find out.  Thank you for your question.
