Q: I missed 3 birth control pills and started my period; I'm still having slight bleeding. What to do?

I'm taking Ortho Tri Cyclen Lo (the generic version). I missed three pills consecutively and started my period two days later. After taking a 2 pills the day I realized and 1 a day for the next 4 days, I found online that you were supposed to stop taking the pills, have your period and then start a new pack. So, 2 days ago I started fresh with a new pack. However, I'm still having slight bleeding. It's only during the first part of the day, and never very much. I'm not having other period-like symptoms (e.g., cramps, fatigue, headache). I'm wondering if this will stop in a day or so once by body readjusts, or if this is another issue entirely, although I'm not sure what that could be. I've made an appointment with my gynecologist, but its not for a couple of weeks. I'm looking for any/all information. Thank you.

I would bet the change in your period, and the remaining slight bleeding, is due to you missing so many pills. Your body becomes accustomed to a certain level of hormones and you have disrupted that, and it may be a while  before it returns to normal, or it may already have.

You may want to consider using a backup method of birth control until you speak to your doctor. They will help you sort this out, you shouldn't worry, things will get back to normal, I'm sure.
