Swiss researchers say a new minimally invasive microscopic technique could diagnose osteoarthritis (OA) earlier than current diagnostic techniques. The "atomic force microscope" technique involves tapping on the surface of a joint with a tiny tip that responds to stiffness. Researchers say this technique could give up to six months of warning to people prone to the disease, thus allowing them more time to take steps to protect their cartilage and joints.
