Statins may help prevent miscarriages

Women who suffer from pregnancy complications caused by a condition known as antiphospholipid syndrome (APS) may be able to reduce their risk of having a miscarriage by taking cholesterol-lowering statins, according to a report from the Hospital for Special Surgery. APS is an autoimmune disease in which the body produces antibodies directed at cell membranes, and pregnant women who have the condition are up to 90 percent more likely to suffer a miscarriage.
