The American Cancer Society has issued a recommendation that all
girls between the ages of 11 and 12 should be given the cervical
cancer vaccine. The vaccine, called Gardasil, protects against the
disease by preventing infection by the human papillomavirus (HPV)
which is the leading cause of cervical cancer.
