2 antibiotics linked to birth defects

Two antibiotics-- nitrofurantoins and sulfonamides, sometimes called "sulfa drugs"--have been linked to an increased risk of birth defects in a new study from the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. But antibiotics commonly prescribed during pregnancy, including penicillin, erythromycin, cephalosporins, and quinolones, were not associated with increased birth defect risks.
