New drug approved for heavy menstrual bleeding

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration has approved a new drug called Lysteda for the treatment of menorrhagia, a condition characterized by heavy menstrual bleeding. Lysteda (tranexamic acid) works by stabilizing a protein that helps blood clot. Tranexamic acid has been used since the 1980s to treat another bleeding condition, hemophilia.
