Just a Girl?

(Page 2)

Christina Aguilera, Singer
I think society has created its own image of what is the perfect girl -- like there's a certain body that's the right thing for girls to look like. Somehow young girls are brought up to believe that. I'm reading the book Reviving Ophelia, about this woman who wrote all these facts down about how from a young age girls are really open about their ideas and opinions -- then once they reach adolescence, suddenly it changes. It's a good book for girls to read about opening up their eyes. It says it's OK to be confident and have opinions and to go out there and be something like a firefighter. As a girl, it's really important to remind yourself of that.

Jenna Elfman, Actress
I was never anorexic because I saw too much of that going on around me, and I was raised well enough to evaluate what that was. When I was 13, I tried for a day to eat only an apple, and I couldn't do it. I went home and ate dinner. In order for me to keep that up, I'd have to really want to hurt myself. Luckily, I was raised well enough to have an appreciation of myself and know that you have to be well-rested and well-fed to get anything done.

Rah Digga, Rapper
I always had very few female friends. Females just have a different vibe than guys. With a guy you can be a little more relaxed, and be yourself. With girls you have to guard yourself. There's a catiness there that's just a part of life and I didn't feel like dealing with that, except in high school, I had to. I went to an all girls private school. That was the biggest bunch of females I was subjected to at one time, and maybe that's why I prefer being with guys now.

Weak people piss me off -- people who act like they can't take charge of their own life, and who are just idling, looking for something to follow. There's nothing worse than going through life and regretting that you didn't do something. You only got one life to live and you might as well live it your way. If you're gonna live it by someone else's standards, then you suck.
