skin cancer on ridge of nose

By rebels Thursday, March 29, 2007
I have just learned that have skin cancer on the part of my nose where the openings to your nose are. the left side. I am scheduled for mohs surgery april 11 and am scheduled with a plastic surgeon immediately after the mohs. I am scared. How serious is this?

mohs surgery is pretty common -- and it's really effective, one of the most effective procedures for removing skin cancer.  i think the doctor (dr. berman) wrote something on mohs. maybe you should check it out.

It depends on how advanced the cancer is, and what type.  If it's pretty small, not a big deal.  The follow-up is probably because the surgery will be "as plain as the nose on your face".  I have a notch in my right ear, no follow-up, but it's pretty well out of the center of attention.  Mohs is the BEST way to go!

Just had the MOHS surgery and plastic surgery on the 25th of April. The plastic surgeon had to do a skin graft to cover the area on the left side of my nose. Was wondering if you also had a skin graft? I don't see the plastic surgeon again for a few days and was wondering if your nose healed okay. I am in my early 40s and don't want to Dan Akyroid in "Nothing but Trouble". I guess there isn't much more I can do at this point except put on my sunscreen every day. I guess I am paying the price for running around in my youth without any knowledge of the sun's damaging rays. Hope your surgery turned out okay....

I suppose I should visit a doctor about the whiteish patch (only sometimes visible looking closely) seemingly under the skin on the left side of the outside point of my nose. It's not raised or swollen... it seems to have been getting more obvious over the last 6 months but not significiantly enough for me to get to the doctor. I am now travelling in the USA and am too scared to go to the doctor because of the cost and also because I fear having to have my nose cut off if it turns out to be something bad. Any suggestions other than just get it checked by a doctor?

Hi, hope you did ok, I know this is several months later, but matbe encourage someone else. I've had Basal cell three times on the nose, the last two times I had Mohs surgery to take it off. The last time the Mohs surgery had to remove almost half of the nose so the  cosmetic surgery was fairly intense. They did a forehead flap procedure and I'll have to say that it turned out pretty well. You can read and see all the pictures at my site.

It looks really rough at first but the healing process has mostly erased the scars. Mohs surgery is the way to go if you have that option.
