- talk with your doctor before about the healing options, although they can't really give you a definitive answer until all of the cancer is gone. I feel lucky I only had 3 stages, they told me that a patient the day before had to have 9 stages and was there for almost 11 hours
- stock up on Tylenol, drinking straws and soup (depending on the location/anaesthetic you might have trouble drinking/eating)
- plan on not getting your face wet for a week. This may sound stupid and vain but I had a really nice long shower the morning of my surgery - exfoliated my face really well and I'm glad I did.
I think it was the right decision, my scar will likely be noticeable but it's on the side of my nose - I think it will be like a 1.5 inch straight line. I'm guessing that if I'd seen the plastic surgeon then I would have probably had a more cosmetically pleasing result but I am guessing that not as much tissue would have been taken and maybe it would have come back? Although there are obviously no guarantees.
If this was actually on my nose/lip or near my eye then I guess that it might have been more scarring? I am really glad I didn't spend too much time looking at images and websites as I think I would have been scared to death.
Hope this helps someone.
