Physicians have long since used "smell" to make diagnoses - you can smell necrotic, dying tissue; you can smell an infectious, pus filled exudate; you can smell the by-products of certain drugs in your urine; you can smell someone who has been on the Atkin's diet long term (their breath has ketones i...

Thanks for this interesting information Healthgal.  I have to admit it sounds a bit creepy not to mention smells a bit fishy - HA!  But seriously, non-invasive is good as long as the determination is accurate. Maybe its worth it to some folks to have less accuracy for non-surgical determination of skin cancer.  I guess most things are a trade off - not to sound too half empty; just realistic.

We'll stay posted for the latest on this new medical find.

    All the best, sue

I have been fighting Squamous Cell Carinoma for 5 years now.  It has been my expeirence that my Dog can accurately sniff out spots on my arms, legs and scalp that have been difinitavely been found to be Squamous Cell Carcinoma.  He sniffs the area and starts to lick them.  I go to dermatalogist and sure enough he has correct diagnosis, Sqaumous cell carcinoma.

I pay attention to my DR. Dog.

I have heard of dogs who can sniff out cancers, sound the alarm before a seizure and perform other "diagnostics" so its wonderful to hear that you have a dog who can equally identify health issues.  That coupled with yearly skin screenings should help you effectively avoid the spread of skin cancer.  wonderful posting
