31 and have BCC on my nose , already had one op now going for MOHS

By tracy fisher Friday, September 28, 2007

Hello i want to share my experiences with you to make you aware of how BCC has affected me. i am 31 and recently had a BCC ( still do have it) most BCC is slow growing however mine seemed to grow very quick, i tried to tell the surgeons that it was spreading but noone belived me. i had a op to remove but the borders were not defined and they didnt get it all, i have already got a large graft taken from my ear to cover the defect. i have now been transfered for MOH surgery they are amazing and finally a doctor belives me and has confirmed that mine is spreading quickly on my nose and is rushing through my surgery, i am scared but know i need to do this! because of the size and surgery i have already had i now face major reconstruction to my nose and will be having plastic surgery procedures to sort it out this will be a long process. even though BCC can be easy to resolve and are not life threatning it can be very hard to deal with emotionally and the change to my face has been difficult but you have to make sure the hospitals listen to you and measure it if you think it is changing quick.

will write after my next stage.

Hi Tracy! My name is MK and I am the producer for this site. Thanks so much for writing and sharing your experience with our community.

I think one thing that many people don't understand about skin cancer is that it may not always be deadly, but it is very taxing on your emotions and your lifestyle. Thanks for pointing that out in your post.

Let us know how your doctor's visit goes...

Hi Tracy,

Thank you for pointing out the emotional toll BCC can take.  Having just returned to work following Mohs and reconstruction on the tip of my nose, I can readily relate to your experience.  I was not able to be scheduled for surgery for 2 months after the original diagnosis and I can tell you that I was an emotional wreck during the waiting period.  There is no way you can prepare for this as no one can tell you ho large the final defect will be.  I wish you all the best and I'm so happy they are able to schedule your surgery soon!!!
