Newly Approved FDA Regulations for Sunscreen Labeling

Hi everyone. Today I want to talk about the recently publicized announcement by the FDA regarding sunscreen labels.  Currently, we all talk about "SPF" levels, because that is the rubric provided by sunscreen companies that indicates how much protection sunscreen provides. "...

Dr. Berman,
Great article.  It is still a little confusing.  I am a long time sufferer of BCC' (25years).  Personally I think that the FDA is a joke concerning their information on sun protection.  They actually give tips when using Tanning Salons.  When in fact they should tell you that using Sunlamps and Tanning Booths can KILL YOU!  In my opinion every Tanning Salon should have a Warning Label posted on their doors warning that the use of Tanning Booths can lead to Skin Cancer.  Just like Cigarettes.  I am a walking bilboard as why not to use tanning booths. Please look at my web site and you can see the effects of the sun on a more personal level.
Thank You

Just to point out- avobenzone and Parsol 1789 are actually one and the same ingredient.  Parsol 1789 is merely avobenzone's trade name.  Also- Avobenzone needs to be paired with a stabilizer like Octocrylene, Oxybenzone (although this is a photo-allergen) and Tinosorb also theoretically stabilizes it.  Otherwise it breaks down exponentially after being exposed to sunlight (not a good trait in a sunscreen!) and it should never be combined with Octinoxate as this speeds up its degradation.
