This did explain a lot.   I have looked at so many sites today trying to get more of a "definition" without success. Gave up and decided to look again later. And found this site. Thanks it did help, explained it better than the dermatologist I went to as well.

Hello,

I was glad to find and read your article today. I just had a pre cancerous mole removed that I've had since a young child. It looked the same but the Doctor was bothered by it. It came back pre cancerous. I would like to know what is the usual follow up treatment for this? Can you elaborate a little more on this? Thank you

I've got a very dark mole removed , which turned up to be precancerous. Is it going to be any follow up treatment after the mole was removed? Thank you.

I just had a suspicious mole removed last week and the doctor took a 2.5 inch long and 1.5 inc wide section of skin because he really didn't like the way it looked and wanted to prevent or get any satellite moles.  I just got the phone call saying it came back as pre cancerous cells and the lady that called didn't know any more, it's a relief to know that I've dodged a bullet but have to be VERY VERY careful from this point on.  Your answer was the best I've found and the most informitive!!  Thank you very much for taking the time to post it!!!

This is really helpful as I was just diagnosed with numerous atypical moles and have had 2 removed so far. I was told by my dermatologist that they were "pre-cancerous" and since melanoma runs on my Dad's side of the family and he has been diagnosed with Stage IV melanoma just last week, I really needed to know what this term meant. I have 4 more that need to be removed and will have to monitor for others. Thank you for clarify this!
