Q: Birthmark that has developed some rough black bumps.

I believe its a congenital melanocytice naevus (based on what i've read). Its on my arm and has been exposed to years of sun exposure. Yesterday i felt a burning sensation on my arm and looked. Arm looked ok..but did notice that i had little black bumps in my birthmark that is normally a beige-brown color. It looks really dry but lotion didn't change the look. Hair is still growing there.

Is this cause for concern??

No answer to this.  As I have the same type of birthmark.  Left inner bicep area.  It used to be a dark textured raised birthmark, I've had since birth that was symetrical (sp?).  Now being 20 years old the edges have become uneven and small raised pinky flesh colored spots have raised up around it and it is black raised bumps that look dry in the middle of it.  I wish I had an answer but I am just in the same situation going to get it looked at in a few days.  Good lucky.  You're not alone.
