Q: skin cancer - Should I have all my moles removed

I have just been told that I have basel cell skin cancer the growth was on my cheek, and I have about 6 moles that are big and 2 other ones that are brown and skabby. My Doctor did not do a general check up of my body. Now I am wondering if it would be safter to just have all my moles removed and then follow on with observing any futher growth etc.

Hello Debbie

Will you be having the Basal Cell cancer removed?  I would seek the guidance of a dermatologist to perform a full body skin check to look for any other signs of skin cancer.  Not all moles are cancerous so you want to have the doctor check...any suspicious moles or lesions may then be removed to biopsy.  Your doctor may not recommend that all moles be removed.

Here is some information from our site about how to perform a self skin care check in between doctor's visits.

I definitely recommend seeing a dermatologist at this point to get everything checked out.  Thank you for your question.
