Can a basal cell carcinoma be deadly?

I had a basal cell carcinoma removed and they didn't get clean margins.  Now I need radiation.  Is it normal to not go back in and try and remove more cancerous tissue?

The cancer was on my side and must have been pretty deep.  Can it travel into my body and be deadly?
