Question

I felt a small crusty spot on my scalp. It's sore & red should i be worried?

I was itching my head and felt a small rough spot.  I was trying to scratch it off not knowing what it was and it felt sore.  i tried to see it in the mirror and it looked like it was bleeding slightly but i am not seeing any blood on my fingertip after touching it.  Should I be worried and/or have it checked?

Hi Karen thanks for your post.  You should always check with your doctor if you are concerned about any kind of condition or symptom that makes you feel uncertain or uneasy.  It is the only way for you to know for sure what it is you have on your scalp.

In the meantime, if you would like to read our Skin Cancer Basics Section, it may help prepare you for a visit and discussion with your doctor - you'll know what to ask!

All the best, sue
