Q: I could be considered paranoid, but I do not want to find out suddenly that I have a cancer. My aunt died from liver cancer, my other aunt had a tumor, what are my odds? Skin cancer is frequent too.

I just want to know what the odds are for these small statistics of my family history? I am paranoid about getting cancer, but my doctor said I'm more likely to get skin cancer, but what about lung cancer, brain tumor, liver cancer?

Hi there

I can understand how you might be worried but I would trust what your doctor says.  Nobody can predict the future and so it makes sense to engage in a healthy lifestyle to up the odds that you don't develop cancer.

Here is some information from The American Cancer Society about the general risk of developing or dying from the various types of cancer.

Here is an Ask the Geneticist site where you could also look up information.  I am not sure if you have increased odds of having cancer just because your aunt had it but again...this is a question for your doctor or a geneticist.

Hope this helps some.  Thank you for your question.
