Why is my post-Mohs scar so much larger than the bcc?

I had recent Mohs surgery for a bcc on my cheek.  The surgeon explained that he had to cut two additional "triangles" of skin on either side of my wound to properly stitch it back together.  He said you cannot stitch a circle (i.e., the wound), so you have to take the extra skin.  My...
