Q: Help for 13 year old boy

Hello- I have a 13 year old son. He is almost 6 feet tall, size 13 shoes, c/o constant stomach pains, fatigue, headaches, body aches and he gets this rash- similar to Cutis marmorata on his legs. This rash comes out of the blue and has some heat to it. It last a few minutes and then gone. He c/o feeling light headed during this time also. Trouble sleeping and concentrating. I have seen two different doctors who don't seem interested to help or find out what's wrong. Any ideas?

Hello Kristi

I am sorry this is happening to your son.  I am not a doctor so I am afraid I will not be able to give you any medical advice.  I did look up the type of rash you think this is...I am wondering where you had heard this term before.  Here is information about Cutis marmorata telangiectatica congenita (CMTC) which appears to be a very rare condition.

My suggestion is to keep a log of all these symptoms and when they occur and take this written list in to his doctor and if you get no satisfaction then get a second opinion.

I hope someone can find out what is causing these symptoms for your son.  Thank you for your question.

I actually came across the name by searching rashes and looking for pictures. I am sure he doesn't have this condition, but it's the only thing that describes the way it looks like on his skin. He has a marble like redness that happens for about 10 minutes, and then it goes away. I have went over the symptoms with his family doctor, and with a dermatologist. They want to see the rash. Understandable, except when it comes out it doesn't last long enough to make it to the doctors office! The other symptoms he has seem to be unimportant to them.

Thank you for the response. I guess I was hoping someone had something similar to at least give me a starting point. Thank you.

Hi again

Does the rash happen often?  Does your son walk a lot or is he over-reactive to heat?

There is something called "golfer's vasculitis" which is a temporary rash of the legs due to heat.  Since his rash is of such duration I am wondering if it is a simple heat rash or some sort of contact dermatitis where something brushes his skin and his skin reacts.  My other guess is some sort of circulation issue.  But again I am not a doctor so you may have to be persistent with the doctors to get some sort of answer.

Hope you figure out what is causing your son's symptoms.  Let us know if you find out anything.
