Actinic keratosis, treatment

I have been recently diagnosed with actinic keratosis of the scalp area.

My scalp is mostly bald.

The symptoms were:

1)  the scalp was covered with small pimples.

2)  these pimples erupted on the top and a small quantity of fluid was released.  This dried and formed a tiny solid crust cap on top of each pimple.

3)  the scalp area produced a lot of an oil-like substance; this formed overnight (after showering) and left an oily overnight depost on the pillow.

The prescribed treatment was

a) local application of fluouracil cream at night

b) local application of desinode cream in the morning.

After 3 weeks of treatment:

1) pimples subsided,

2) eruptions ceased

3) disculoration of skin (purple to red)

4) oil production on scalp stopped.  This led to dry sensitive skin and itching.

My main question is: is there anything unusual about the inhibition of oil production in the skin?  Does this mean anything?  Should I use some kind of cream to replace the absent natural oil?
