I show signs of skin cancer and I have family who have been diagnosed with skin cancer. My brother is two years older than me and he had 14 different cancerous moles removed last year. My father had cancer removed from his nose and face about 6 years ago. I believe my father has more skin cancer but he refuses to continue treatment.
Anyway, about mine. I have several large moles. Those alone are worrisome, but I have three that scare me in particular. One of them, on my palm, has changed shape and most of the brown color has, as best as I can describe it, fallen off of the raised part of the mole and onto the flat part of my palm. Another mole, on my elbow of the opposite arm, has grown slightly and it is two different colors, half pink half dark brown. And the final really worrisome mole is on the inside of the arch on my foot; it hasn't grown or changed color but a sister spot is growing nearby.
I have also been noticing new freckles that come in pretty dark with sharp edges and slowly they fade til they're almost invisible with ragged edges, some have come and disappeared then returned again. As well as some weird shaped moles spread around on my body.
I'm 23 and I haven't been to a doctor in 8 years. I don't have health insurance and I only make $500 dollars a month. I can't afford school so I can't get student health insurance.
I'm going to call a dermatologist that is offering free skin cancer screening tomorrow, but if she says I have cancer, what do I do? Can I get treatment if I dont have money up front? If their schedule is full, how do I get a screening if I don't have money? Do I tell the dermatologist that I don't have money and they send me a bill? Do I put it on a credit card? Do I get the screening then tell them I can't pay up front?
I'd rather not die from something just because I don't have any money.
Any advice you can offer is greatly appreciated. I've been aware that I show the signs of skin cancer for a year or so now and the longer it's been that I've discovered them the more and more scared I get. I've been putting it off for a long time hoping for a better job or something with benefits, but no luck. I don't think I should wait any longer, but I don't know how to pay for anything.
