A vaccine designed to treat patients with advanced melanoma has shown promise in a new study. In a new late-stage clinical trial, researchers found that using the peptide vaccine along with the immunotherapy drug Interleukin-2 improved response rates and progression-free survival in patients with advanced melanoma. In 2009, the American Cancer Society estimate that 69,000 people in the United States will be diagnosed with melanoma and about 8,600 will die of the disease.
