Pageant winner urges FDA action on tanning, sunscreen

When former Miss Maryland Brittany Lietz was 17 years old, she began using tanning beds to get ready for her senior prom. But just three years later, Lietz was diagnosed with melanoma, despite a lifetime of using sunscreen and being urged to take care of her skin. That's why Lietz has joined a panel of doctors and skin cancer advocates to urge the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to provide better regulation and information about skin cancer and sunscreen products. Lietz and the panel's members also spoke to FDA officials about sunscreen products available overseas that may provide better protection against skin cancer.   Read full story >
