Study: Hair dye not linked to multiple melanoma risk

Women who have used hair dye--even for decades--do not have a greater risk of developing multiple melanoma, researchers say. Previous research had suggested that the use of hair dyes could increase a person's risk of developing a number of different cancers, including leukemia and lymphoma. But in a new study, scientists who interviewed 175 women with the cancer and 679 without the disease and found no evidence that hair dye use presented an increased multiple melanoma risk. But researchers say more study is needed on the relationship between hair dye and cancer, since these studies conflict earlier ones that suggested a link.
