Acne drug Accutane discontinued

Drugmaker Roche says it will stop selling its acne medication Accutane because the med's sales have dropped off due to competition from cheaper generic versions of the drug. Generic formulas have been available since 2002, and the brandname version's market share is now less than five percent. Though company officials stress that this move is not motivated by safety issues, the drug has had a rocky safety history, having been been linked to such conditions as birth defects, depression, and suicidal thoughts.
