New skin cancer therapy shrinks tumors

An experimental skin cancer drug has been shown to by 70 percent effective, researchers in New York say. The oral medication PLX4032 was tested on 27 patients. Of those 27, 19 showed a 30 percent or greater reduction in tumor size, and two participants went into complete remission. Experts are hailing the discovery as a "breakthrough in melanoma." Researchers also found that the drug had few side effects. A clinical trial involving 700 people is scheduled to begin this month.  Read full story >
