Qutenza approved for post-shingles pain

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration has approved a new skin patch called Qutenza to treat postherpetic neuralgia, the nerve pain that may follow shingles. The active ingredient in Qutenza is synthetic capsaicin, a substance found in chili pepper. The patch delivers the drug to the skin where the nerve pain is felt.
