'Tanning Tax' Replaces Tax on Botox in Healthcare Reform Bill

People who frequent tanning beds may be paying an additional 10 percent for the services if the current healthcare reform bill is passed. This "tanning tax" replaces the 5 percent tax proposed on Botox and other cosmetic procedures, which was thrown out after pressure from lobbyists and cosmetic surgeons. The 10 percent tax on tanning services is being justified by the fact that tanning beds contribute to the development of skin cancer, and it would raise an estimated $2.7 billion over 10 years.
