Accutane User Who Developed IBD Awarded $25.2 Million

A New Jersey jury has awarded a man who says he developed inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) after taking the acne medication Accutane $25.2 million in damages. The jury held drugmaker Hoffman-La Roche Inc. responsible for not warning Andrew McCarrell's doctor that McCarrell could develop IBD from taking the severe acne medication. Roche first alerted doctors to a possible link between Accutane and IBD in 1984, but despite accumulating data about this link since then, the company has not strengthened its warnings to prescribing doctors or patients.
