Radioactive Cream for Skin Cancer Shows Promise

European researchers are testing a skin cream that can kill basal cell carcinoma cells in one treatment. The cream uses a radioactive isotope that is able to kill tumor cells in half an hour while leaving the skin around the tumor cells unharmed, which means it may be a better option than surgery for people who are concerned about scarring on the face. Scientists tested the treatment on 1,000 patients in Rome and found that 95 percent of patients' tumors were completely removed. Larger trials are now underway.  Read full story >
