The popular antiwrinkle drug Botox and a competitor have been linked to dangerous botulism symptoms in some users, the Food and Drug Administration warned, in some cases so bad that a few children given the drugs for muscle spasms have died.

Even though this is a different use then the approved use to visibly reduce the appearance of brow lines, it's the ame action - botuliam is injected into the blood to cause paralysis. What are we doing to ourselves in the name of beauty? There must be alternatives that are safer.

Dear tekval,

I appreciate your concerns and suggest you check out my blog, Dr. Hema's Botox Blog, at top right of the Skincare home page. The children who were treated with Botox had serious, debilitating problems that could not be successfully treated by other means, and they were given larger doses of Botox than are recommended. Only a very small number of them had problems, in comparison to the large number who have been helped. The FDA has made it clear that cosmetic use of Botox is not included in its investigations. FYI, Botox is never injected into the bloodstream. It is injected for cosmetic purposes into overactive muscles that the physician is seeking to re-balance. Please feel free to contact me with your questions!

Thanks,

Dr. Hema

You're welcome! Safety should always be assured where any optional cosmetic treatment is concerned. I am very confident about the safety of cosmetic treatment with Botox. Please let me know if you have any further questions after reviewing my Botox Blog.

Best regards,

Dr. Hema
